Honorable... Plays!
It's was a humid Sunday evening in August and the Pittsburgh New Works Festival's Readings at Dowe's on 9th provided all the essentials: Chilled Wine, AC and an evening of great entertainment.
This year’s three Honorable Mention plays: Host by Jim Mandler, Acts of Contrition by Patricia Montley, and Androids Are Like That by Roger Strauss were presented as seated readings to a mixed house of theatre goers, all sipping on chilled drinks that matched the even chill-er atmosphere inside the upscale jazz club.
All three plays were thick and cunning, but Acts of Contrition by Patricia Montley was the night's highlight. A play examining the theme of forgiveness in 12 short vignettes ranging from a dying woman's final plea to a young boy's refusal to apologize for hitting his brother. A true crowd pleaser!
If these were the runners-up, I can't wait to see what's coming next!
