PGH Theatre Connect - The Wright Way

Every month we will feature a contemporary playwright (some local, some not so local...) The only criteria: All writers have been (or should be) produced in Pittsburgh!

So, here's our August 2006 playwright: Diana Son

Son is one of the few contemporary playwrights that has found a true balance between writing for the theater and writing and for television. Ms. Son's break-out play was the deftly crafted Stop, Kiss which premiered in 1999 at NYC's Public Theater. Since that production, this story of love, loss & growth has been told on numerous regional and university stages across the country, including a 2002 production here in Pittsburgh presented by Cloven Hoof Productions.

After a long stint away from the stage (spent raising a new family and writing for "Law & Order: Criminal Intent") Son returns to NYC's Public Theater with her newest play, Satellites which focuses on two new parents trying to maintain their identities while rediscovering each other.

All of Diana's work looks at the individual journey through the exploration of complex social issues. Her characters are dynamic and often breaking through racial stereotypes. Let's bring her back to the 'burgh!
